Greenscapes - Environmentally Beneficial Landscaping

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA's) GreenScapes program provides cost-efficient and environmentally friendly solutions for landscaping. Designed to help preserve natural resources and prevent waste and pollution, GreenScapes encourages companies, government agencies, other entities, and homeowners to make more holistic decisions regarding waste generation and disposal and the associated impacts on land, water, air, and energy use.

As a member, Furniture Leisure has been selling a wide selection of environmentally friendly recycled plastic furniture and commercial outdoor products to the parks and recreation industry, military installations, government institutions, schools, universities, medical facilities and other businesses for many years

Our recycled plastic furniture is manufactured from plastic lumber originating from post consumer and industrial recycled plastics; an example is the plastic gallon milk jugs that you purchase at the grocery store, with advanced technology, manufactures have produced a high density polyethylene material. They have made Adirondack chairs, rocking chairs, dining tables and even chaise lounges made out of recycled plastic that never splinters, warps, corrodes, is resistant to mildew, unaffected by termites and rodents.

The most-often recycled plastic, HDPE or number 2, is downcycled into plastic lumber, tables, roadside curbs, benches, truck cargo liners, trash receptacles, stationery (e.g. rulers) and other durable plastic products and is usually in demand. The white plastic "peanuts" used as packing material are often accepted by shipping stores for reuse.

In Israel successful trials have shown that plastic films recovered from mixed municipal waste streams can be recycled into useful household products such as buckets.

Similarly, agricultural plastics such as mulch film, drip tape and silage bags are being diverted from the waste stream and successfully recycled into much larger products for industrial applications such as plastic composite railroad ties. Historically, these agricultural plastics have primarily been either land filled or burned on-site in the fields of individual farms.

CNN reports that Indian Dr. S. Madhu of the Kerala Highway Research Institute has formulated a road surface that includes recycled plastic. Aggregate, bitumen (asphalt) with plastic that has been shredded and melted at a temperature below 220 degrees C to avoid pollution. This road surface is claimed to be very durable and monsoon rain resistant. Apparently the plastic has been sorted by hand, which is economical in India. The test road used 60 kg of plastic on 0.5 kilometer long by approximately 8 meter wide two lane road. Each kilometer of one land road, would need 60 kg of plastic trash.
If the US annually uses 100 million metric tons of plastic it could pave 1 and 2/3rds billion kilometers of single lane road this way.

The environmental benefits of recycling plastic are that it produces fewer dioxins, less sulphur dioxide, less waste and less carbon dioxide.

Recycled plastic furniture is resistant to heat, cold, salt and acids and best yet recycled plastic outdoor furniture lowers the worldwide consumption of hardwood trees.

Recycled plastic furniture is an environmentally friendly alternative which helps to reduce the waste stream by giving a beautiful second life to milk jugs, based on industry estimate, 4.3 milk jugs goes into producing a pound of recycled plastic lumber.

Recycled plastic is non toxic to humans and animals. Recycled plastic furniture is made in all colors with stainless steel hardware. You can leave recycled plastic furniture outdoors all year round without any worries. Recycled plastic furniture is crafted to look like wood and patterned after classic furniture styles that have withstood the test of times.
